FAQ

FAQ – Project Cargo & Heavy Lift Hamburg

What is an OOG container (Out of Gauge)?
Out of Gauge (OOG) refers to cargo pieces that exceed the standard dimensions of a 20' or 40' container – in length, width or height. They are transported on flatrack or open-top containers and require special permits and specialist handling equipment at ports and terminals.
What permits are required for heavy transport?
Depending on the route and country, permits are required for over-length, over-width, overweight and dangerous goods. HIS Hamburg handles the complete permit management – from route surveys to applications with authorities in Germany and abroad.
Can you coordinate on-site installation at the destination?
Yes. Through our international partner network we can coordinate unloading at the destination, transport to the job site and installation by qualified technicians on request – particularly for industrial plants, turbines and production lines.
From what weight is cargo classified as heavy lift?
Heavy lift generally refers to individual pieces from 10 tonnes, or consignments that exceed the permissible axle loads on road or rail. There is no universal definition – what matters is weight, dimensions and the specific transport route. Contact us and we will assess your specific cargo.
